Flossing is as important as brushing the teeth which is something that most people tend to forget. Toothbrush simply cannot remove all the particles of the food and especially sticky foods. Therefore, flossing at least once a day, before going to bed for example, will remove anything that might be stuck between the teeth thus preventing plaque, cavities and more serious issues such as gum disease. Due to significant mouth-body connection, gum disease should not be taken lightly and flossing is something that can seriously minimize the risk.
Rinsing with mouthwash
Rinsing your mouth with fluoride mouthwash serves the purpose of protecting the teeth from decay specifically. Not only that, this additional step also takes care of cavity prevention and can soothe irritated gums. It is important to buy mouthwashes that have already proven their effectiveness and that are alcohol-free. Still, do not think that rinsing your mouth can replace regular brushing and flossing. This is something that will only assist you with killing mouth bacteria and maintaining oral health.
Visiting the dentist
If you are experiencing some pain or discomfort in your mouth it is clear that you should visit your dentist at once. However, even without any obvious problems, getting a checkup from time to time is essential for preventing tooth decay. Often, dentists can discover the potential problem before you even realize you have one. Tooth decay can also happen due to the irregular growth and placement of teeth in the mouth so braces or, even better, invisalign that is completely invisible and custom-made to fit perfectly, can regulate the teeth order thus preventing inflammations and tearing.
Leading oral healthy diet
Basically, leading an oral healthy diet means avoiding food that is high in sugar and carbohydrates. Bacteria is attracted to sugar while sugary foods such as sweets and snacks can cause excessive plaque buildup. All this leads to teeth decay. Food that is sticky apart from being sweet is especially dangerous for the teeth since it can stay on the surface of the teeth for a longer time. No one says that sweets and similar foods should be blindly avoided but it is highly recommended to eat these foods as rare as possible and brush the teeth afterwards.
Oral health should be treated as equally important as body health. Responsibility is an individual matter but it should be clear to everyone that tooth decay is not something that will magically never happen even if nothing is done to prevent it.
