The origin of the golf is debated widely and no astute result has been decided. However it is believed that the origin of the modern day golf lies in Scotland. The golf was found in the Middle Ages; however it became internationally modish only after its spread in the Great Britain.

The act of Scottish parliament 1457, the first documented mention of the golf is given. The golf was described as an unprofitable sport and was banned due to the distraction it caused from the military training.
Thomas Kincaid a medical student mentioned the earliest known instructions for playing this game in his diary. The Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers has the credit for the earliest surviving rules for playing golf written in 1744.
In 1744, Edinburgh Town Council provided the trophy to a surgeon named John Rattray, who had won the Gentlemen Golfers’ Competition for the Silver Club. A silver ball engraved with his name was attached to the trophy that gave birth to a long tradition.
